ago. The California Highway Patrol has released the video of Evans speeding down Interstate 80 while a police helicopter watches his every swerve. If you’re not into race cars, the cops show up around the 7:40 mark. It kind of reminded me of the scene in The Wire when Kima got shot. Except, you know, I wasn’t crying at the end of this video.
Tyreke Evans: The NBA Rookie of the Year was “briefly detained” by police officers who say the Kings’ star was driving 100 mph on Interstate 80 in California. Cops approached Evans’ 2010 Mercedes-Benz S550 (price tag: over six figures) with guns drawn because the windows were tinted so dark they couldn’t see inside. Evans was cuffed, but quickly released without incident. He was on his way to play basketball. Evans was a model citizen at Memphis and then Sacramento, but inevitably, this 2007 drive-by shooting will be brought up anytime a story like the speeding ticket surfaces. In that incident, Evans was the driver and was never charged with anything. [Sac Bee]
SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The basketball court isn't the only place where Sacramento Kings player Tyreke Evans apparently likes to move fast.
A video released by the California Highway Patrol shows Evans speeding past vehicles on Interstate 80 in his purple Mercedes. CHP officers say he was driving 120 to 130 miles per hour.
The video of the 20-year-old NBA Rookie of the Year was shot from a plane on Memorial Day weekend.
After being stopped by police, Evans was arrested at gunpoint.
Authorities say the video offers evidence that Evans may have been racing another vehicle.
Attorneys say he pleaded no contest to reckless driving, was sentenced to 80 hours of community service, ordered to take part in teen driving programs and lost his license for 30 days.
